We’re casting an upcoming independent feature film about a man grappling with life, relationships, art, and spirituality. In an effort to put the pieces together from an abusive relationship, he finds healing in taking up therapy, Jiu Jitsu, and returning to his passion for writing. Lines become blurred between the various microcosms of his life, and he learns that in the end these earthly endeavors aren’t enough to fill his soul, he will find something else. Something he has ignored from the past but hasn’t forgotten him.
Logistics: We are looking to start filming a soon as humanly possible but this is a slow burn project, likely over the next year or two shot on days based on people’s availability. This type of drawn out schedule may not be for everyone and we ask that you only apply if this is something you’re okay with! This will be shot in and around the Pottstown, PA area, the greater Philly area, and near West Chester, PA. It’s a labor of love years in the making, and it’s going to be a wild adventure!
Pay is $125/Day for filming days, and rehearsal is different depending on how they’re done, remote or in person, one on one, or in a group.

Jacob - Male 20s/30s, He’s putting the pieces together from the past, trying to rebuild himself to be better. The film revolves around him and how the rest of the cast influences him and vice versa. We explore his past through the present in order to create the future.
Maggie - Female 20s/30s, Jacob’s sister, their relationship is hot and cold, she makes fun of him one moment, and plays the caring tough love older sister the next, but is she there for him when he needs her is the question. His abusive ex is her best friend from College.
Hailey - Female 20s/30s, Jacob’s old flame, a passionate artist destined for greatness in the works she paints, a wannabe DaVinci. But when Jacob plays her patron, she takes, and takes, and takes until he no longer knows who he is. What makes this extra hard is she was the person Jacob loved, trusted, and respected the most in his life. His journey will teach him to trust again, by delving into the memories of her and learning about what drives her complexity. But the past will come back to haunt him.
Courtney - Female 20s/30s, In the return to Jacob’s passion for writing, he meets a kindred spirit, more self critical than him, if that’s possible, and she sees right through him. Stuck in his head, in theory, and she encourages him down the path that he needs to truly find meaning in life.
Younger Jacob, Maggie, Hailey, & Courtney - Looking for actors to play the characters in childhood, could be anytime during grades 1-5 or look the part.
Denise - Female 50s/60s, Jacob’s mother, loving, supportive, but rather disconnected by the things he finds passion in. Understanding why her divorce with Jackson unfolded will reveal why Jacob struggles with relationships.
Jackson - Male 50s/60s, Jacob’s father, a man who doesn’t really have an emotional touch, at least that we can see. The question is he just a cold father stereotype, or is he a man who’s further along the journey Jacob’s on, just as disillusioned as him, and the key to understanding him, and empathizing with him, is the same key for him to find forgiveness in himself.
Susan - Female 30s/40s/60s, Jacob’s therapist whom helps Jacob deconstruct who he thinks he is, and make sense of the pieces, but she can only do so much to help him put the pieces together, he needs to find out how that works and do it himself.
Cameron - Male 20s/30s, Jacob’s long time friend from grade school, still stuck on substances, and arguably a bad influence. He’s there when Jacob needed him, but will need Jacob when it’s least convenient for him. This will become a big test of Jacob’s boundaries, and make himself question if he’s a true friend.
Louis - Male 20s/30s, Jacob’s long time friend from grade school who’s taken a more productive path, the discipline of martial arts, and applies that philosophy to life. This inspires Jacob to get involved. But Louis’s philosophy only goes so far, and he’ll need Jacob’s help battling his own demons.
Henry - Male 20s/30s, Jacob’s new landlord who becomes a best friend, and introduces himself into the world of self help and business. But Henry isn’t all put together, he’s stuck on a missed connection he turned away out of fear of intimacy. In some mysterious way Jacob becomes instrumental in aiding him along his journey to change that.
James - Male 20s/30s, He becomes a friend to Jacob through Henry, someone else who’s ambitious in life, a positive influence in that regard, but his solution to dating is to treat it like his businesses, and avoid the risks of giving your heart to one person. He’ll get a front row seat to what happens when a man loves and commits fully to someone who inspires him.
Daniel - Male 30s/40s/50s, A black belt instructor whose school teaches Jacob a healthy approach to learning a craft, and how it can be applied to the rest of life.
Evelyn - Female 20s/30s, She’s Maggie’s College friend, her dream is to be an actress, but she doesn’t know how to take control of her destiny, instead she finds herself getting rejected time and time again. The question is, does she reject herself or her own dreams, or find a way?
Darius - Male 40s/50s, Jacob’s Screenwriting teacher, he’s a hot shot Hollywood type, a sell out who wants to will others down the same path he’s found works. But once confronted with something with soul, his is so black he can’t help but stamp out the flame. But are the embers of his soul stamped out completely? Or is there a chance to reignite that passion? Maybe the right student can influence that?
Gus - Male 20s/30s, A screenwriting student turned friend to Jacob. He’s got feelings for Courtney but he’s never learned how to confront the feelings, have the courage to ask someone out, or pursue them. There’s a lot of things he wasn’t taught that maybe Jacob can help with, but will he stay resentful of him?
Anderson - Male 20s/30s, A screenwriting student turned friend who feels like life is so insignificant, he longs to be like the superheroes in the comics he loves, but thinks they’re a fantasy. Perhaps he’ll learn slowly we can go from our small pocket of the world to help the rest. Like a rock thrown into a pond, the water ripples out.
Rozha - Female 20s/30s, Henry met someone on online dating who was into him but through fear of intimacy he choked and could never find her again. By chance he’s able to meet her again, through the help of divine will and his friend’s luck. She’s born in the Ukraine, moved here when she was three, black glasses, and named after a flower. She’s the first person in a while who really made him feel challenged and appreciated, and he wasn’t used to it. She’s a straight shooter, and cuts right to the point, something that he needs in his life whether he admits it or not.
Cassie - Female 20s/30s, She’s a coworker who was also nudged along by their boss after the death of her mother. So when things turn tragic she and Jacob connect on that.
Francis - Male 20s/30s, Hailey’s new boyfriend, he cares about her, but doesn’t realize she’s just using him to get back at her ex Jacob. He’s bought into her version of the story and wants to help her get any justice that would please her.
Randal - Male 30s/40s/50s/60s/70s, He’s a spiritual director who’s studied all the different religions and has constructed his own global perspective. Deep down he’s more lost than anyone but doesn’t know it. He’s not a member of that church, nor a spiritual director, he’s the blind leading the blind. They just let him use the office space.
Michelle - Female 30s/40s/50s, Jacob’s boss, she is the one who got the ball rolling towards the beginning, getting him to therapy. She’s a bit of a role model, and looks after her people. But she will also be the reason he is sent into a spiritual crisis later, a crisis which will lead to finding a missing piece of the puzzle that was in his back pocket all along.
Minor Characters - There’s several other minor characters, but minor doesn’t mean they aren’t well thought out, and cared about. The goal with this film is to show that everyone is on their own journey, they’re all working through something, even the “villains.” Everyone’s “villain” is someone else’s “hero.” Another minor character is Michelle, Jacob’s boss who encourages him to go seek therapy, to sharpen the ax so the tree comes down, she will set the ball in motion, and something will happen to her when Jacob’s life falls apart. This story is a tapestry of layered meaning, rooted in real life inspiration.
